Friends of Hotspur is a group of parent/carer volunteers who work together to plan events for school to benefit the pupils. We raise funds to supplement school resources, providing extra curriculum experiences and enhance the education experience of the children. We strive to keep prices at events affordable so all the school community can participate. Funds raised at fairs are mostly fed back into future events.

Our main events are:

Summer Fair

This year Hotspur is celebrating its 40th birthday, and FoH will be helping to staff the event.

This summer we have been asked to help run the following stalls:

  • Food - hot dogs
  • Refreshments
  • Ice creams
  • Snack/Tuck Shop
  • Face Painting
  • Glitter Tattoos
  • Uniform swap shop
  • Book stall
  • Toy stall
  • Coconut shy and other games if we can get enough volunteers!

We will be sending out a link to a sign-up sheet closer to the event, please sign up to the mailing list via the link at the bottom of this page.

We appreciate that most of us will also want some time to explore the fair and keep an eye on our kids. It’s always a balancing act, we suggest persuading a family member or friend to help with this if possible. If we have plenty of volunteers, this spreads the load for everyone, and means there are enough volunteers to cover stalls. This summer, the fair will be taking place on the bottom yard/field, and school staff will be manning the gate to ensure no kids go off-site unattended.

Halloween Disco

This fun social event is divided into KS1 and KS2. KS1 children attend after school with parents/carers, the older children can be dropped off and are supervised by volunteers and school staff. We plan the event, booking the DJ, running the food & drink stalls. Helping to set up and clear away.

Christmas Fair

A great opportunity to get some Christmas shopping done, and have some festive fun!

FoH volunteers sort the many generous donations of toys, books and gifts.

Set up and decorate Santa’s Grotto.

Run the stalls in collaboration with the Hotspur staff.

Stalls include: cake stall, chocolate tombola, guess the weight of the cake/sweets in the jar, jolly jars, make a festive craft, tombola, refreshments, hot dogs, and festive games.

We reach out to local businesses to support us for the main raffle prizes.

Extra events:

  • COMING SOON - Freeze Pop Fridays!
  • Uniform Swap Shop.
  • After school bake sales.

How can I help?

We know everyone has lots of pressure on their time these days. Even just volunteering your time for an hour can make a difference.

Ways you can help support Friends of Hotspur include:

Running stalls, helping sort donations in the days before the fairs, baking cakes, face painting, creating new games from scratch, helping keep an eye on kids of other volunteers during events, helping pack up afterwards. You’re welcome to bring your babies/toddlers along if you need to!

As well as casual helpers, we are also looking for volunteers who have experience writing grant applications, people willing to join the committee, or take on a role such as treasurer.

What are Friends of Hotspur fundraising for?

We support Hotspur with some little extras, to enhance pupil’s experience of school.

This year we have:

  • Purchased school teddies for all new reception starters.
  • Funded a portable Sensory Den for the increasing numbers of pupils with additional needs, or those who are feeling dysregulated.
  • Covered entertainment hire costs for events such as the Halloween disco/fairs.
  • Supported the school's 40th birthday celebrations.

Previously, FoH fundraising has contributed to purchasing the wooden play structure. We consult with the school leadership team to provide funds for projects the school requires support with and are currently discussing our next exciting venture!
